SINGAPORE: Spring cleaning is in full swing at the Geylang Serai Temporary Market, as all 82 stallholders at the market closed their stalls on Wednesday to facilitate this.

The market's management committee decided to push forward the spring cleaning because of the mass food poisoning outbreak involving an Indian rojak stall there.

But 938LIVE understands from stallholders that since the temporary market started functioning some three years ago, no spring cleaning had been organised.

The stallholders said that in the old Geylang Serai market, which was torn down for redevelopment, spring cleaning was conducted every four months.

The spring cleaning is expected to be completed on Thursday.

All the stallholders will then attend a briefing conducted by the National Environment Agency on hygiene.
