SINGAPORE: The Singapore government has expressed its understanding on the Thai government's decision to postpone the 14th ASEAN Summit and related summits.

The meetings were to take place in Pattaya, Thailand from 10-12 April but were cancelled after Thai anti-government protesters stormed the hotel hosting the summits.

A statement from Singapore's Foreign Ministry says Singapore knows that the Thai government has put in maximum effort to host successful summits.

In the end, it decided to ensure the safety of the delegates ahead of other considerations.

The Singapore government said it supports and understands the decision and hopes that these summits will be reconvened as soon as possible.
