SINGAPORE: Singapore has set up a new National Integration Council to promote and foster social integration among Singaporeans and with new citizens and permanent residents.

The 20-member Council is made up of seven Cabinet ministers and leaders from the community and private sector.

It is chaired by Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

MediaCorp Chief Executive Officer Lucas Chow and Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, who is the director of the Institute of Policy Studies, are also Council members.

The Council will encourage collaborative social integration efforts and drive integration initiatives in schools, workplaces, the community, and through the media.

It will also monitor the progress of social integration, share best practices, and help resolve any problems that may arise.
