SINGAPORE: Singapore and the United States have reaffirmed their excellent bilateral ties during a meeting between Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo and his US counterpart Hillary Clinton in Washington DC.

Welcoming Mr Yeo to the State Department, the US Secretary of State, Mrs Clinton, said Singapore and the US have a close and constructive relationship.

Referring to Singapore as a critical part of the global economy, she also thanked the Singapore government for its efforts in the fight against piracy in the Gulf of Aden.

Mr Yeo expressed appreciation to Mrs Clinton for making Asia her first stop on her first overseas visit earlier this year.

He added that Singapore is looking forward to hosting US President Barack Obama when he attends the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in November.
