SINGAPORE: One of Singapore's largest IT and electronics show has opened at Suntec Singapore on Thursday.

The four-day PC Show drew in thousands of customers on its very first day.

Bargain hunters arrived even before the gates were open. Many were browsing the various pamphlets being given out to check out the best deals.

And once the show officially kicked off, it was clear this event is not for the faint-hearted. Getting on to the escalators itself was a slow process. In addition to the crowds, some of the roads leading to Suntec Singapore were also jammed.

Organisers say they have made arrangements for a smoother ride.

Gillian Loh, project manager of Lines Exposition and Management, said: "We have already advised show visitors to take public transport if possible and of course, together with the Suntec management, we have helped to control the crowd as well as the traffic around Suntec.”

And exhibitors say they are overwhelmed by the response on the first day of the PC Show and they believe even more people will attend during this coming weekend. They say it is a sign that the recession will not hurt their sales.

Johnson Goh, COO of Afor, said: "I'm very surprised. The crowd has been fantastic so far. People have been looking for good buys. Our cashiers are prepared. Our manpower, resources... everything is prepared."
