SINGAPORE: The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has briefed all six local full-time madrasahs to issue leave of absence to excuse students or staff who had travelled to H1N1-affected countries from school for seven calendar days upon their return to Singapore.
In a statement, MUIS said the advice, which will be implemented on the first day of the upcoming school term on Monday, June 29, follows the Ministry of Education's guidelines and precautionary measures in curbing the spread of the H1N1 flu.
Those who are excused may return to school after the seven-day period, only if they have no fever and/or influenza-like symptoms.
Additionally, students and staff who are not feeling well and/or have influenza-like symptoms are to be excused from attending school until they are given a clean bill of health.
The statement added that madrasahs will have a screening station at each school gate and a twice-daily temperature-checking exercise in classrooms at different times of the day.
All students and staff will also have to declare their travel history. Those with a temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius or higher will be issued the leave of absence.
Visitors to the school will also be subjected to a temperature screening and will be asked to provide their contact details and travel history.
School assemblies at all madrasahs during the first week of school are to be suspended.
As for co-curricular activities and other mass school-based activities, such as camps - they are to be either scaled down or cancelled.
