SINGAPORE: A new museum will open to the public from Wednesday, adding to the rich offerings presented by a dozen or so public and private museums here.

The Singapore Coins and Notes Museum houses rare objects and coins from pre-independence Singapore, when barter trade was practised, to the more familiar maritime, birds and orchid notes series.

The museum was first conceptualised last year by the Singapore Mint to showcase Singapore's history and currency evolution, and is supported by the National Heritage Board's Heritage Industry Incentive Programme.

The museum is housed in a restored shophouse at No. 2 Trengganu Street, in Chinatown.

To find out which country has the note with the highest value denomination and other museum highlights, catch Saturday's The Big Picture on Channel NewsAsia at 10:20pm.
