SINGAPORE: Nearly six months after he was set on fire at a community event in January, Yio Chu Kang's Member of Parliament, Seng Han Thong, was back at his first Meet-the-People session with constituents on Thursday.
Mr Seng, 59, said he has been looking forward to meeting his residents again, adding that he has been kept informed of his residents' problems via email correspondences with his grassroots leaders.
The MP, whose hands remain clad in pressure garments, still visits the physiotherapist four times a week. He joked that banks have been calling him in the past months to verify his signature on cheques as his hands have not fully healed.
When asked about security measures, Mr Seng said he is not taking extra precautions as he believes residents are generally friendly and community leaders will be looking out for him.
He said: "I was advised not to be exposed to the sun and not to shake hands with too many people. In fact, Ang Mo Kio GRC fellow MPs suggested covering (my duties) for me for another month so that I can recover fully.
"But I thought I should be back earlier so that I can gradually phase in my grassroot activities."
