SINGAPORE: A wide range of individuals are believed to be among the nine new Nominated Members of Parliament.

Two have confirmed their appointments. They are sociologist Paulin Tay Straughan, an associate professor at the National University of Singapore, and entrepreneur Calvin Cheng, who was honoured this year as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

Others believed to be on the list include former Sportswoman Of the Year and national swimmer Joscelin Yeo as well as Audrey Wong, artistic co-director of contemporary arts venue the Substation.

Mildred Tan-Sim, chair of the public communications sub-committee on the National Council of Problem Gambling, is also expected to be among the nine new NMPs.

The labour movement's candidate is NTUC Central Committee member Terry Lee, who is the president of the Singapore Insurance Employees' Union.

Also expected to be on the list are Singapore Maritime Foundation chairman Teo Siong Seng, media company Strategic Moves CEO Viswaroopan Sadasivan, and Presbyterian Community Services executive director Laurence Wee.

The nine NMPs are expected to be sworn in on July 20.
