SINGAPORE: A 29-member delegation from Tatarstan, Russia, is in Singapore for a two-week study visit.

On Thursday evening, the delegation's senior officials - led by Deputy Prime Minister Zilya Valeeva - called on Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

This is the first time that an in-depth programme on public administration has been designed for the cabinet and senior officials of one of Russia's key regions.

The visit follows a request by Tatarstan's Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov, who met Mr Lee when he visited Tatarstan two years ago.

The Tatars' particular areas of interest are in topics such as corruption and crisis management. They are also keen to share information on Tatarstan's investment opportunities.

During their stay, the Tatars will visit Singapore's economic ministries, URA, CPIB and the Ministry of Health, where they will be briefed on Singapore's healthcare system and the crisis prevention and management of the Influenza Pandemic.

They would be also be observing a "Meet-the-people" session.

The visit is organised under the auspices of the Singapore Cooperation Programme and jointly conducted by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the Civil Service College. - CNA/de
