SINGAPORE: Balestier Khalsa put up a tenacious performance to earn their first clean sheet of the season in a 0-0 draw at home to Sengkang Punggol on Thursday evening.

The result snapped a run of four consecutive league defeats for the Toa Payoh-based side, who remain at the bottom of the 12-team S.League table but are now just two points behind the Young Lions, who are placed 11th.

In a stormy encounter that saw referee P. Jeevanathan dish out 11 yellow cards, it was Balestier who had to do most of the defending, more so after Chilean midfielder Julio Eduardo was sent off 12 minutes into the second half for two bookings in quick succession.

But Sengkang failed to make their one-man advantage count as the young Tigers' goalkeeper, Lee Heng Huat, and his defenders kept the visitors at bay throughout the match. - S.League.com
