SINGAPORE : Two second-half strikes from Kengne Ludovick ensured Home United remained unbeaten at Clementi Stadium as they defeated Geylang United 2-1 on Saturday evening.
The win was the Protectors' eighth in nine games on the ground this season, and helped slash the gap between themselves and fourth-placed DPMM to four points as they continued their bid to break into the top four.
After a goalless first half, Ludovick scored four minutes into the second period for his tenth league goal this term, before striking again on the hour mark to double the advantage for Home.
Hafiz Rahim pulled a goal back for the visitors on 69 minutes, but not even the late dismissal of Singapore international Isa Halim was enough to weaken Home as they held on for all three points.
In a separate match, Albirex Niigata (Singapore) and the Super Reds had to settle for a point apiece as the two East Asian sides played out a 1-1 draw at Jurong East Stadium.
The result was enough for Albirex to leapfrog Woodlands Wellington into eighth place, but it was an evening of disappointment for the Koreans as they remained stuck in sixth spot.
Kenji Adachihara, returning to the Albirex side from suspension, struck from close range at the start of the second half to give the Japanese side the lead.
Mid-season signing Chang Jo Yoon replied for the Koreans on 71 minutes when he bundled the ball home off a Yun Bo Young pass, but poor finishing meant that neither team managed to find a winner late on. - sleague.com
