SINGAPORE: The Singapore Police Force said on Friday they are in contact with their Indonesian counterparts to find out more about the Jakarta bombings and the likely perpetrators.
It added that there is currently no information of any specific threat to Singapore.
But spokesperson Inspector Ivan Choo said Singapore must remain alert. In this regard, the police have kept their community partners, including hotel security management, apprised and engaged.
Channel NewsAsia's Indonesia Bureau chief Sujadi Siswo said even though it is still too early to say who is responsible for the attacks, there has been a lot of speculation on the ground.
Fingers are pointed at the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group in Indonesia. Some of the group's senior members are still at large, including master bomb maker, Noordin Mohammed Top, and other JI members trained by the late Azahari Husin.
Indonesian police are still trying to understand how the attacks could have happened. Security at Jakarta's JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton, which are both luxury hotels, is apparently very tight.
