MANILA: The crème de la crème of Asia's multimedia publishing industry came together for the 2009 Asian Multimedia Publishing Awards in Manila on Friday, with Singapore winning four out of 24 excellence awards.
Ashok Nath, co-chair of the Asian Publishing Convention, said: "It seems the definition of publishing now is multimedia. In the old days, when we say publishing, it just means newspapers and magazines."
Over 70 entries from nine countries competed in seven categories, with MediaCorp's publishing arm taking home four excellence awards.
Chinese entertainment magazine I-Weekly clinched the runner-up spot in the Multimedia Communication Category after it took on a radical revamp in multiple platforms last March.
Styleweddings.sg, a bridal website that complements Singapore's leading bridal magazine Style Weddings, won excellence awards in three categories – Use of Digital Technology, Multimedia Strategy and Business Model, and Multimedia Advertising Delivery.
Not content with being Singapore's leading online wedding resource portal, styleweddings.sg aims to translate its online content to more personal contact with brides and grooms-to-be.
Wilson Tang, senior producer, Lifestyle, Interactive Media, MediaCorp, said: "What makes us different is that styleweddings.sg is from online to on-ground where we (connect) the expert, who is our partner, to the consumer... letting consumers know what there is in the market. That makes us different and that is what we are doing to ensure that we are the best."
It is this interactivity and connectivity that industry experts said would spell the difference for the publishing industry in the coming years.
