SINGAPORE: The number of people with dementia in Singapore is expected to double to some 40,000 within the next decade due to Singapore's fast-ageing population.
To cope with the increase, the Alzheimer's Disease Association opened its fourth New Horizon Centre to provide daycare services to those with dementia.
Located at Jurong Point, it is the first dementia daycare centre to be located in a shopping mall and it is for those with early stage dementia.
The centre was opened by Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Mr Lim Boon Heng, on Saturday.
Mr Lim, who is also Minister-in-charge of Ageing Issues, said the centre's location can help reduce stigmatisation and promote integration of persons with dementia into the community.
