Singapore govt describes late Corazon Aquino as remarkable woman

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Government says it is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Philippine president Corazon Aquino.

In a statement, Singapore Foreign Ministry says the Singapore government conveys its condolences to her family, the government and the people of the Philippines.

The ministry says that Mrs Aquino was a remarkable woman who, during and after her term as president from 1986-1992, worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Philippines.

She is also seen as a symbol of democracy in the Philippines.

The ministry adds that Mrs Aquino will long be remembered and respected both in the Philippines and internationally for her devotion to her people.
