KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Eighteen people were injured when a tour bus they were travelling in skidded and turned turtle during heavy downpour at Km35.1 of the Karak-Kuala Lumpur Highway on Thursday.
Bernama news agency quoted Selangor Public Order and Traffic chief Superintendent Che Hussin Omar as saying that 25 passengers, including 18 foreigners, were on board the tour bus travelling from Genting Highlands to Batu Pahat when the accident occurred at about 4.30pm.
He said the injured victims, seven of them suffered fractured bones, were treated at Selayang Hospital while others continued their journey with another bus.
Two of the seriously injured passengers were foreigners - a Chinese woman and an Indonesian man, Che Hussin told reporters at the scene. He did not identify the nationalities of the other injured foreigners.
The bus driver, 44-year-old Atan Mohamad, who was unhurt, told police the road was slippery and the bus skidded while going downhill.
"All of a sudden water flowed over the road, causing me to lose control of the bus before it hit the divider and turned turtle," he told reporters at the scene.
