KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Health Ministry has banned three traditional products found to contain scheduled poisons.
The products are Xian Tang Ling Capsule, Xanthium Plus and Eetye Whitening Cream.
Bernama news agency quoted its pharmaceutical enforcement director Eisah A. Rahman as saying Xian Tang Ling Capsule was found to contain glibenclamide which could cause sickness like hypoglyceamia, a rapid depletion of sugar level in the blood.
She said serious hypoglyceamia could lead to epilepsy or unconsciousness.
Ms Eisah said Xanthium Plus contained ibuprofen and budesonide which could cause side effects like nausea, heart burn and stomach ulcer while budesonide could lead to breathing difficulty and causing the face to swell.
She said Eetye Whitening Cream contained hydroquinone which could result in uneasiness and the skin becoming red or hypersensitive.
It could also prevent skin pigmentation as it reduces the sun's ultraviolet rays and exposes the users to skin cancer, she added. - CNA/de
