JAKARTA - Husaini Ismail, a Singaporean wanted for alleged involvement in a plot to crash an aircraft into Singapore's Changi Airport in 2001, has reportedly been arrested in Indonesia.

Indonesia's Jakarta Globe newspaper, citing a local police official, said police arrested the terrorism suspect over the weekend in Central Java province.

Husaini had evaded capture in 2001 in Singapore - as police hunted for him and other terror suspects alleged to be connected to Jemaah Islamiyah - and had entered Indonesia in 2002, said the English-language daily.

The official told the Globe that Indonesian police are continuing their investigation into Husaini.

Husaini is alleged to have been involved in the 2001 plot to hijack an aircraft from Bangkok and crash it into Changi Airport, along with Mas Selamat Kastari Selamat, the alleged mastermind of the plot, who was recaptured in Malaysia in April after escaping from custody in Singapore a year earlier.

Responding to media queries regarding Husaini's capture, Singapore's Home Affairs Ministry said the Internal Security Department (ISD) has been in close communication with the Indonesian Police.

It added that it is not able to comment at this point in time as investigations by the Indonesian Police are still ongoing.
