SINGAPORE: It was a clean sweep by Singapore sailors at the 2009 Byte CII World Championship.
They bagged gold, silver and bronze in the men's and women's categories on the last day of the Championship in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
This despite them not sailing on the final day due to unfavourable weather.
But Singapore's consistent performance earlier in the week won them the day.
The outing is the most successful World Championship ever for Singapore sailing.
Winning in Canada was also made more challenging as the Singapore sailors were unfamiliar with the weather conditions but adapted quickly.
Asian Youth Games Gold Medalist Darren Choy won gold while Youth Olympic Squad sailor Terence Choo won the silver medal and Chai Xun took bronze.
In the women's category, Asian Youth Games Silver Medalist and Youth Olympic Squad sailor Najwa Jumali secured gold, Germaine Teo came was second and Airiel Ruth Ho took home the bronze.
Singapore also won all the prizes in the 16-and-under category.
The sailors are expected home on Sunday morning. - CNA/vm
