SINGAPORE: Police arrested a 48-year-old man earlier on Sunday morning, just 20 minutes after he had robbed a Chinese woman at knifepoint.
The police received a call at about 1am, notifying them that a lift robbery had taken place at Block 48, Lengkok Bahru.
On searching for the suspect in the surrounding areas, the police officers finally tracked him down at a nearby block.
The suspect had threatened the 26-year-old victim at knifepoint when the lift arrived on the ninth floor.
Fearing for her safety, the victim handed over S$34 in cash, a S$398 handphone and a silver necklace worth S$10 to the suspect, who then fled the scene when the lift doors opened.
If convicted of armed robbery, the suspect will face a jail term of up to 14 years and 24 strokes of the cane.
