SINGAPORE: Singapore President S R Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have sent congratulatory letters to their Chinese counterparts to mark China's 60th National Day.
In his letter to Premier Wen Jiabao, Mr Lee noted China has made tremendous progress.
He said the strength and resilience of the Chinese economy in the face of the global financial crisis have helped to stabilise the regional economies.
He added bilateral relations have also flourished with collaborations on many fronts. These include the China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and flagship projects like the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city.
In his letter to President Hu Jintao, Mr Nathan noted that China is today one of the world's leading economy.
He said the country has become a key player on major global issues such as climate change and nuclear proliferation.
Mr Nathan added Singapore cherishes its excellent relations with China. - CNA/vm
