SINGAPORE: Singapore swimmer Quah Ting Wen will not be able to compete at the Youth Olympic Games in August as she is over the age limit for the competition.

Quah, 17, was named top female athlete at this year's Asian Youth Games after winning four individual gold medals.

A check with the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee and aquatics world body FINA's website stated that only swimmers born between 1 January 1993 and 31 December 1994 will be eligible for the girls' swimming competition at the 2010 Youth Olympics.

Quah would be ineligible to compete as she was born on 18 August 1992 - about four months over the age limit.

When contacted by MediaCorp, Quah said she was disappointed but will now focus on the Asian Games in China next year.
