SINGAPORE - MediaCorp, Singapore's leading media company, is leveraging on its multi-media platforms to raise funds to help victims of the recent disasters inflicted by the south tropical storms and earthquake in the region.
Over 100 MediaCorp, local and ASEAN artistes will participate in Project Hope - which will be the first TV charity show to benefit the victims of the affected populations in ASEAN, the company said.
All donations will be channelled to both the Singapore Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity which have launched public appeals for survivors of Typhoon Ketsana in Indochina and the Padang earthquake in Indonesia. MediaCorp will underwrite the full cost of production.
MediaCorp's CEO, Lucas Chow, said: "As the region unites in grief, we also hear of many heroic acts of courage and kindness. We at MediaCorp feel strongly that we can give hope to the victims and their families, which is why we have called our television special, Project Hope.
We urge the public to donate generously to help the millions affected by the recent spate of calamities."
Project Hope will be telecast "live" on Monday, October 19, from 8.30pm to 10.30pm over Channel 5, Suria, TVMobile and the outdoor screens at Orchard Central.
Phone lines are open till Monday, October 26, midnight for the following donation amounts*:
1900-112-5010 : S$10 donation
1900-112-5020 : S$20 donation
1900-112-5050 : S$50 donation
*Administrative fee of S$0.21 (inclusive of GST) is chargeable for each call.
For individuals and corporations who wish to donate above S$50, they can call in during the "live" show on October 19 on a special number which will be manned by television and radio personalities, MediaCorp added.
Cheque donations should be made payable to "MediaCorp Charity Fund", with "Project Hope" marked clearly at the back of the cheque.
The encore telecast of Project Hope will be on Sunday, October 25, from 11am to 1pm on Suria, and from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Channel 5.
