SINGAPORE: Next year's OCBC Cycle Singapore event could act as a precursor to the 2010 Youth Olympic Games road race.
Organisers of OCBC Cycle Singapore also hope to build on the success of this year's event to attract even more entries next year.
More than 5,300 riders took to the streets for the inaugural event in February this year.
The event catered to riders of all levels and ages. This will continue next year, along with the Criteriums races where professionals compete.
There will also be the Tricycle Ride where 2-to-5-year-olds race over 100 metres.
But the 50-kilometre Super Challenge route will follow the course marked out for the Youth Olympic Games road race.
There is also the possibility that athletes could be counting down to the event as preparations for the YOG.
Chris Robb, managing director of Spectrum Worldwide, said: "We are hoping that will mean that a lot of the best junior cyclists in the world will come down to Singapore. Because it will really be their only opportunity to ride on the Youth Olympic Games course."
