SINGAPORE: The stars will come out - not to play, but to lend their star appeal to charity.

This time it will be for a MediaCorp humanitarian charity TV special on Monday to raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Ketsana and the Padang earthquake.

More than 100 MediaCorp local and ASEAN artistes - including Zoe Tay, Glenn Ong and Singapore Idols Taufik Batisah and Hady Mirzah - will be involved in Project Hope.

All donations will go to the Singapore Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and Mercy Relief.

Vasantham Star 2009 winner Viknesh will also be in the show.

The 25-year-old said: "I also have colleagues from Indonesia, so I can feel their pain. I'm glad to be able to play my part in my first performance since winning Vasantham Star."

MediaCorp CEO Lucas Chow said: "As the region unites in grief, we also hear of many heroic acts of courage and kindness. We at MediaCorp feel strongly that we can give hope to the victims and their families. We urge the public to donate generously to help the millions affected by the recent spate of calamities."

The show will be televised "live" on October 19 from 8.30pm to 10.30pm on Channel 5, Suria, TVMobile and the outdoor screens at Orchard Central. MediaCorp is footing all production costs.

You can call 1900-112-5010 for a S$10 donation; 1900-112-5020 for a S$20 donation; and 1900-112-5050 for a S$50 donation. Lines will be open till midnight on October 26.

A special line, manned by television and radio personalities, will also be open during the show for donations of more than S$50. - CNA/de
