SINGAPORE: The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has handed over the two newly-constructed medical clinics to Indonesian authorities in quake-hit Pariaman, Padang.
The SAF engineering team had worked together with their Indonesian counterparts to construct the clinics to replace those that had collapsed during the recent earthquake.
During the handing-over ceremony at Padang Pasir, assistant chief of General Staff (Operations) Brigadier-General Tung said: "The close cooperation between the SAF and TNI allowed the SAF to provide effective medical assistance and construct the two medical clinics in Padang and Pariaman within a short time.
"We hope that our assistance has gone some way to relieving the suffering of the earthquake victims."
Padang Mayor Dr Fauzi Bahar thanked the SAF engineering team for rebuilding the clinics.
The 54-strong SAF medical team also concluded its operations in Pariaman on Friday.
The team, comprising orthopaedic and general surgeons, began treating patients about two weeks ago at the Pariaman Public Hospital, after an earthquake hit that area.
The team had also set up a mobile medical clinic at Koto Bangko on October 7, where they worked with TNI medical staff to provide direct medical aid and assistance to earthquake victims in the more remote areas.
The SAF medical team attended to more than 1,100 Accident and Emergency cases and performed over 100 surgeries during their stay in Padang.
The team will return to Singapore on Sunday.
