SINGAPORE: The Sikh community in Singapore has come together to raise funds for the victims of typhoon Ketsana and the earthquake in Padang.

Seven Sikh temples and six other local Sikh organisations including a youth group contributed to the concerted donation drive.

S$21,000 was raised over a two-week period.

Mr Inderjit Singh, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC and advisor to the Sikh Welfare Council, presented the cheque to Dr Fatimah Lateef, director of Mercy Relief on Wednesday afternoon.

All proceeds will be channelled towards supporting ongoing efforts by Mercy Relief at the affected locations. - CNA/vm
