SINGAPORE: Workers may soon undergo health screening to detect possible chronic conditions during their compulsory medical examinations.
This is one of 12 recommendations made by the National Tripartite Committee on Workplace Health aimed at promoting total well-being among employees.
The move may involve some half a million industrial workers, vocational licence holders and food handlers.
The committee also recommends intensifying efforts to publicise the importance of health screening among employees.
It aims to spur workers to take better care of themselves by encouraging more active participation in workplace health promotion programmes.
Other recommendations include introducing an enhanced grant to encourage more small and medium enterprises to roll out work health promotion programmes, and aligning the committee's efforts to promote mental well-being and AIDS awareness among employees.
The National Tripartite Committee on Workplace Health was formed in December last year. It is made up representatives from the private sector as well as agencies including the National Trades Union Congress and the Singapore National Employers Federation.
