SINGAPORE: Auditions were held on Friday for entertainers to perform at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore next year.

Participants were given one minute to showcase their talents and some took the opportunity to sing and dance.

Organisers said there is no age limit and the oldest person who has signed up so far is a 38-year-old man. Those selected will be performing at various competition venues during the games.

Organisers said the entertainers will be part of the volunteer pool which includes 120 sports presenters.

The presenters, aged between 13 and 29 years, were introduced to Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Teo Ser Luck, on Friday.

As sports presenters, they will be assigned to competition venues as announcers, commentators, hosts and mascot talent to enliven spectators' experience during the games.

Self-proclaimed "sports fanatic" Adam Osman was chosen to be a presenter for football, modern pentathlon and swimming. The 23-year-old student was excited to be part of the games.

He said: "We'd be hosting half-time shows, also pre and post shows for the sports and also we'd be interviewing the athletes and the coaches just to get a feel of what they're feeling at that point in time."

The 120 were selected out of an initial 500 who attended training camps between December last year and March this year. The selection was based on overall presentation skills, vocal quality and personality.

The games will take place from August 14-26 next year. - CNA/vm
