SINGAPORE: The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has launched the "CD Lionhearter Club" in which youth volunteers trained in emergency preparedness will serve on overseas humanitarian missions.

Earlier in October, six members of the club helped provide assistance to earthquake victims in Padang. These six Singapore Polytechnic students were the first few members of the club to go on an overseas mission.

They assisted Mercy Relief for three days - by distributing food, water, and medical supplies in Pariaman, Indonesia. The students also helped set up tents.

The club has 85 tertiary students who will assist the SCDF to train the community in emergency preparedness and life-saving skills.
