SINGAPORE: The Singapore Haj Mission, together with Haj travel agents, has asked pilgrims to adopt contingency plans to deal with the H1N1 virus after consulting Singapore's Health Ministry on the advisory issued by the Saudi Arabia's Health Ministry.
In addition to the usual requirement of getting a valid certificate of vaccination against seasonal flu and meningitis, pilgrims are also required to be vaccinated against the H1N1 virus.
However, as vaccination against H1N1 is only expected to be made available in Singapore in two weeks, the first batch of pilgrims - who are leaving for Mecca on Wednesday - have to get their general practitioners to certify that they are free from H1N1.
Tengku Mohd Fouzy, president of the Singapore Islamic Travel Agents, said: "For those (who are leaving for Mecca) without this vaccine, we really hope that maybe the government of Saudi will take precautionary measures and give them the vaccine if it is available at Saudi at the point of time."
