SINGAPORE: Singapore has said it is confident about the security measures it has put in place for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings, which will kick off this Sunday.

However, the island-state is not taking anything for granted, said Second Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam on Wednesday on the sidelines of a conference.

"Our position has been that we have not come across any seriously credible known threat," said Mr Shanmugam. "But that doesn't mean there can be no such threats. We always have to take it very seriously."

He added: "I won't go into the details of our security operations, but people know that Singapore will take this very seriously. And we have put in place what we consider to be adequate measures.

"We are confident about the measures we take, but security is not something we take for granted."
