SINGAPORE: Coach operators, who offer transport services to places like Malaysia, have been forced to explore ways to improve their business.
Operators said on Wednesday they are already facing falling demand for their services, on top of competition from budget carriers offering cheap flights to regional destinations.
Since regulations do not allow operators to fix ticket prices, they have to explore alternatives to increase market demand. These include improving bus services or offering routes to places not serviced by the budget carriers.
On Tuesday, 16 coach operators and the Express Bus Agencies Association were fined a total of S$1.69 million by the Competition Commission of Singapore for price fixing.
