YOG athletes to learn how S'pore manages water at Marina Barrage

SINGAPORE: The inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010 will offer a Culture and Education Programme that showcases Singapore's methods in conserving and managing water.

Starting from day 1 of the games, some 120 athletes a day can go on a tour of the Marina Barrage.

They will participate in games and learn about Singapore's water conservation efforts.

Organisers said the interactivity can help overcome the language barrier.

Goh Kee Nguan, CEO, Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, said: "We are fairly confident, I think, of the Culture and Education Programme being a hit with the youths.

"As youths are more energetic, what we've done is - we made sure that the design of the programme is a lot more kinesthetic, a lot more hands-on.

"There's going to be different issues with language. So that's why hands-on becomes the way to go, the approach." - CNA/vm
