SINGAPORE : MediaCorp, StarHub and SingTel have won the rights to broadcast the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) within Singapore.

The Games' organising committee hopes that having three official broadcasters for next year's YOG will maximise publicity for the event.

MediaCorp is the free-to-air partner, StarHub will use both its cable TV network and mobile platform, while SingTel will distribute YOG content on its mobile phone and Internet networks.

And this is just the beginning.

Ng Ser Miang, chairman, Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, said: "At last month's broadcasters meeting in London, several stations have shown keen interest, so we are expecting several international broadcasters to be involved as well."

The International Olympic Committee was also given an update on how the Games are shaping up.

Details for the Culture and Education Programme have been confirmed, although the programme will not be compulsory for the YOG athletes.

Preparations are on track, with traffic management at the on-going APEC Summit providing lessons for the organising committee.

However, there will not be any dedicated lanes for athletes at next year's YOG. Instead, motorists will be encouraged to give way to YOG vehicles which have special labels. - CNA/ms
