SINGAPORE : The CEO Summit has seen some of the best global corporate minds exchange ideas on how to get out of this economic downturn.
But on the sidelines, some business students with fresh ideas also got an airing.
In line with APEC's 20th anniversary, business students from a hundred of the region's top business schools were invited to write essays on what APEC can do for business.
All top three winners got an all-expenses paid trip to attend some of the APEC meetings in Singapore and received certificates from Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Taking top honours was Yale University student from Singapore, Geoffrey See.
Mr See said: "There is a lot of attention on trade barriers, but I feel there is not enough attention on how business environments in countries are different and how that affects the ability of companies to produce across national borders."
Two students from Indonesia took second and third spots.
Second prize winner Surya Susantio said: "It is about marketing at the bottom of the pyramid, people living below two dollars a day and how corporations can work with NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and governments to reduce the poverty."
The APEC Secretariat received submissions from 16 of the 21 APEC economies for this competition. - CNA/ms
