SINGAPORE: More than S$600,000 have been raised for 51 voluntary welfare organisations in this year's Citibank-YMCA Youth for Causes programme, the highest amount since it was started in 2002.

The 100 teams taking part were asked to come up with entrepreneurial activities for non-profit organisations.

And to challenge them further, they had to promote public awareness for the social causes of the organisations.

One of the winners came up with a 5.5-kilometre barefoot walk to highlight the plight of impoverished children in Phnom Penh.

13 teams that showed the most outstanding performances in fundraising were also recognised on Saturday. - CNA/vm
