SINGAPORE: A question on Singapore's economic and employment outlook will be asked when Parliament sits on Monday.
MP Halimah Yacob of Jurong GRC, wants to know what factors can derail growth this year, in light of increasing protectionism in the aftermath of the global economic and financial meltdown.
She also wants to know how the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum can energise growth and development.
Altogether, 51 questions have been tabled for oral answer.
Several MPs will be asking the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources on plans to advance environment-friendly practices and stimulate green businesses in Singapore.
Nominated MP Associate Professor Paulin Straughan wants the minister to elaborate on the key achievements of the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Conference and its implications for ASEAN.
The Minister for National Development will be asked questions on killer litter, estate maintenance and cleanliness, as well as noise pollution.
Five bills will also be debated.
One of them is the Medical Registration Amendment Bill. The amendments to the Medical Registration Act seek to improve and streamline the Singapore Medical Council's existing disciplinary processes.
There will also be a debate on the Moneylenders Amendment Bill. The passing of this bill will allow authorities to deal with loan-sharking syndicates as criminal organisations.
It will empower the Home Affairs Minister to freeze property and funds in accounts which are proceeds from loan-sharking activities.
It will also provide wider investigative powers such as the inspection of bank documents and tax information.
