SINGAPORE: Singapore is the first Southeast Asian country to launch the "Doodle 4 Google" competition. Other countries to have held the contest include the US, China and Australia.
Singaporeans aged between 4 and 19 years old are invited to express what they love about "Our Singapore".
The search engine will feature the winning entry on National Day this year. The new icon for National Day is to commemorate 50 years of self-governance in Singapore.
The deadline for submissions is February 26. The winner, along with one parent and a school representative, will receive an all-expenses paid trip worth S$10,000 to Google's headquarters in USA, Mountain View, California.
Twelve-year-old cartoonist Ryan Lee unveiled his submission at the launch. It was inspired by Singapore food.
The 'G' of Google is a satay grill, durian and ice kacang make up the 'o's, while a fish and toothpick complete the name. And Ryan has some tips for budding Google doodlers.
"Try and replace the letters with objects. My second tip is to try and add humour because it will be a bit more amusing. And my third tip is to do a few sketches before actually saying it is your final one because you can always improve," he said.
