SINGAPORE: Police have arrested 12 people suspected to be part of an illegal lottery syndicate, operating in a shopping complex on Beach Road.
They arrested the eight men and four women during a raid on Tuesday, in a unit believed to be a bet collection centre.
Police also seized about S$20,000 in cash, betting records and documents, as well as a fax machine and handphone.
According to the Police, initial investigations revealed that the members of the syndicate would collect bets from punters at the unit. They would then consolidate the bets and transmit them electronically or via telephone to an overseas collection centre.
The results of the illegal lottery are based on the foreign country's public lottery.
