SINGAPORE : Some inmates in prison and drug rehabilitation centres have been honing their artistic skills.

And 40 of them - who are finalists of this year's Yellow Ribbon Art Competition - will showcase their works in an exhibition.

The theme for this year's Yellow Ribbon Art Competition is RestART, which stands for Resilience, Self-Awareness, Transformation, Adaptability and Reintegration into the community.

The works of the finalists will be displayed at the Singapore Art Museum this September.

For some inmates, the pursuit of art in prison allows them to rediscover their place in the community.

Every year, more than 10,000 inmates are released from prison and drug rehabilitation centres.

The Yellow Ribbon Project aims to engage the community to give ex-offenders a second chance. - CNA /ls
