SINGAPORE: Singapore Business Federation (SBF) has re-elected Tony Chew as chairman for a second two-year term until 2012.
Other appointment holders were also announced at SBF's 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday. They include new vice-chairmen Teo Siong Seng and R Narayana Mohan. Existing vice-chairman Dato' Mohd Zain Abdullah will also serve his second two-year term.
In a speech, Mr Tony Chew took the opportunity to thank out-going council members including vice-chairmen Chua Thian Poh, Barry Desker and Vijay Iyengar.
The SBF said it has helped to secure deals worth S$550 million for its members in 2009, despite the global economic downturn and the H1N1 outbreak.
SBF added that during the year, it also played a role in organising the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit and the APEC Business Advisory Council meeting in Singapore.
The two meetings were aimed at facilitating business and promoting free and open trade.
In addition, SBF also assisted the Economic Strategies Committee (ESC) in producing a proposal on how to help Singapore grow and remain competitive.
Overall, SBF organised 275 activities for its 48,300 member representatives in 2009.
Looking ahead, the federation said it will work closely with other trade associations, business chambers and government agencies to leverage on initiatives from ESC's recommendations.
It also expects to help its members expand into new markets as well as new business growth areas such as green technology.
