SINGAPORE : The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) may have ended but there will be many who will own a piece of the Games.
They have been snapping up YOG merchandise.
When the YOG Superstore opened its doors along Orchard Road in May, half of its customers were foreigners.
As the Games drew nearer, more locals bought the merchandise, such as T-shirts, bags and water bottles.
Pins and plush toys are the popular items.
Mascots Merly and Lyo were sold out in the first week after the Games opened.
Those who could not get any turned to the online auctions.
The retail price of a medium-sized pair was S$45.80.
At one particular auction, the price attracted 39 bids at S$158.
Earlier this week, the store was re-stocking Lyo when the news team dropped by, and all 22 toys were snapped up within 15 minutes.
One customer said: "I bought nine. On Sunday I bought six, and then today I bought three. I just came from the Village because at the Village, it is sold out. At Kay Siang Road, the YOG centre, it was sold out last week."
The store will be open until August 31, and leftover stock will be sold on the YOG official online store. - CNA/ms
