SINGAPORE : Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said organisers of this year's National Day Parade have converted what started as a problem into a creative opportunity.
Speaking to reporters just after the parade on Thursday, he said when the decision was made to tear down the 34-year-old National Stadium, organisers needed to find a replacement venue.
And in choosing to put up the show at Marina Bay, they have successfully produced something even better than what was traditionally done at the old stadium.
Mr Lee said: "Better show, better place, better involvement of the audience all around the Bay, and very creative use of the opportunities of the place - the water, the space, the bridge. And I think that by bringing people in, engaged in the show, as they celebrate the 42nd anniversary, there is an emotional engagement as well.
"And I am sure... all the viewers at home will have felt it. The song was "Dare to Make a Difference, Dare to Change". And I think the team here, Colonel Teo and his team, have done a marvellous job. And they dared to imagine something which we did not think of when we first set them the mission, and they have created something which has surprised us."
PM Lee added that this is what a City of Possibilities is all about: to make it always fresh, always something new, always something to look forward to. - CNA/ch
