SINGAPORE : Ministers at several National Day observance ceremonies on Friday stressed that workers must continue to find ways to upgrade themselves.
The Education Minister and Second Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, applauded Keppel Offshore and Marine.
He praised the company for playing a big part in the marine sector's growth.
He also urged the management to develop its people to build a culture of learning.
The call was echoed by the Trade and Industry Minister, Lim Hng Kiang.
Speaking at Murata Electronics, he noted that 1,100 of those retrenched in the second quarter were mainly from the electronics sector.
So he urged the company to press on with training, so that workers can upgrade their skills. - CNA/ms
