President of Lombardy Region in Italy calls on PM, SM

SINGAPORE : The President of the Lombardy Region in Italy is in Singapore and called on Singapore's leaders on Friday.

Mr Roberto Formigoni is here at the invitation of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

President Formigoni, who arrived on Thursday, met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana.

He also met Senior Minister Goh, who hosted an official lunch in his honour.

During their meeting, they exchanged views on opportunities for closer economic cooperation between Singapore and the Lombardy Region.

President Formigoni expressed interest in tapping Singapore as a gateway to the region.

Senior Minister Goh also briefed President Formigoni on recent developments in ASEAN and Singapore's close economic relations with countries in the region, including China and India.

Mr Goh also briefed President Formigoni on his recent visit to Suzhou and the Suzhou Industrial Park.

He welcomed the Lombardy Region to work with Singapore to invest in the region.

The Senior Minister last met President Formigoni during Mr Goh's visit to Italy in November last year.

President Formigoni's visit ended on Friday and before he left, he also met Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang. - CNA/ms
