SINGAPORE : There are now just a few issues remaining in the way of concluding the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which both sides have now agreed to settle by March next year.
This point was noted when India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met ASEAN leaders on Wednesday.
At the closed-door session later, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that to close the final gap, the FTA must be seen from the strategic perspective of overall relations, and not just negotiated on specific terms.
Besides the FTA, Mr Lee also hopes closer co-operation could be pushed in other areas such as the ASEAN-India Open Skies Agreement which PM Singh had proposed at the last summit in Cebu. - CNA/ms
