KORAT: Singapore continued its golden haul in the pool on Sunday – it won a total of four gold medals and one of them was a record-breaking achievement.

The Singaporean boys powered away to smash the record for the 4x100 metre relay finals with a time of 3:26.70.

Philippines won silver while host Thailand took the bronze.

Two of Singapore's gold medals in swimming on Sunday came from Singapore's new swimming sensation, Tao Li.

She is expected to shoulder the burden of delivering gold, with the absence of Joscelin Yeo.

The Asian Games gold medallist did not have a golden start at the Games, though.

The 17-year-old settled for silver in the 200-metre individual medley, the first of her six events at the 24th SEA Games.

But Tao Li made up for this.

The Singapore Sports School student proved why she is a name to remember, especially in her favourite event, the 100-metre backstroke.

The petite Singaporean faced some competition from fellow team-mate Shana Lim.

But in the end, Tao Li finished first with a time of 1:40.05.

Lim made it a one-two finish for Singapore, while third place went to Chai Sook Fun of Malaysia.

Tao Li was again in action in the 100-metre butterfly finals, where she is the third best in Asia, and the favourite at the SEA Games.

Almost breaking the SEA Games record set by Joscelin Yeo, Tao grabbed her second gold for the night with a time of 1:00:33.

Louisa Los Santos from Malaysia won silver and another Malaysian, Marellyn Liew, made up the top three.

Another gold for Singapore came from the men's 100-metre backstroke finals where Singapore had two representatives – Anglo-Chinese School student Zach Ong and Lim Zhi Cong.

17-year-old Ong, took the gold in his pet event, with Indonesia's Glenn Sutanto and Vietnam's Do Huy Long in the second and third placing respectively.

In the men's 400-metre freestyle, Singapore had to settle for silver.

Marcus Cheah was piped to the finishing line in the last 25 metres by Thailand's Tharnnawat Worakiart.

Nonetheless, 19-year-old Cheah finished in a time of 3:59.61, breaking the national record.
