KORAT, Thailand - Thailand scooped four more gold medals Tuesday on the last day of the track and field competition here, securing their place at the top of the athletics charts with 17 victories.

The host nation's Wassana Winatho won the heptathlon with a Games record of 5,889 points, securing a place at next year's Beijing Olympics.

Saowalee Kaewchuy of Thailand came home to win the women's 400 metres but in the men's race, the Philippines' Julius Felicisimo Nierras Jr edged out Thailand's Jukkatip Pojaroen.

Fellow Thai Sanya Buathong won the men's javelin and the host nation's
success was completed when Thitima Muangjan took the women's triple jump with a
new Games record of 13.85m.

Wassana, 27, who also won the 400m hurdles at these Games, said she was delighted to have overcome bad health at the beginning the month as well as knee surgery undertaken earlier this year.

"I'm tired after this event but I'm really happy to have qualified for the Olympics," she added, following treatment from medical staff.

Other winners included Indonesia's Suryo Agung Wibowo, who won the men's 200m to add to his 100m victory and in the women's 200m final. Vietnam's Thi Huong Vu also made it a sprint double following her 100m success Friday.

In the men's 1500 metres, Nguyen Dinh Cuong of Vietnam, 25, set a new Games mark, holding off Malaysia's Vadivellan Mahendran down the home straight to win in 3:45.31 minutes.

After crossing the finishing line Nguyen Dinh Cuong, who Saturday won the 800m, fell to the ground and was stretchered off to receive treatment.

Indonesia's Triyaningsih, 20, won the women's 10,000m to add to her 5,000m gold.

The diminutive runner said she was proud of her double. "I was confident of winning at the SEA Games but I had to keep trying right to the finish and ignore my opponents," she added.

Singapore's Zhang Guirong took the women's shot put gold, Malaysia's Roslinda Samsu won the pole vault and the country enjoyed further success in the men's high jump, with Lee Hup Wei coming out on top.

Vietnam finished with eight gold and Malaysia and Indonesia won seven apiece.
